2026 Theme

Year Theme 2026: On Our Duty of Care– Giving Meaning

The Theme For 2026, Energy For One World (EFOW) sets its compass on “On Our Duty of Care- Giving Meaning”. After a year focused on “The Essentials” in 2025, we now elevate our eyes to the profound responsibility held by energy leaders, nations, and corporations. This theme calls for a shift from transactional strategies to transformational stewardship—recognizing that our decisions today are the direct inheritance of tomorrow.

The Topic Our “Duty of Care- Giving Meaning” serves as a unifying framework for navigating the complex “decade of divergence” we find ourselves in. It challenges us to bridge the gaps between energy security, economic reality, planetary boundaries and climate urgency with a renewed sense of humanity.

Key Pillars of the 2026 Agenda:

  • Stewardship Over Status Quo: Moving beyond compliance and pledges to active, conscious protection of our “Common Home” and the climate system.
  • Human-Centric Energy: Ensuring that the energy transition leaves no one behind, specifically addressing the needs of the Global South and vulnerable communities.
  • Healing Geopolitics: Using energy cooperation as a tool for peace and stability in a fractured world, rather than a weapon of division.
  • Leadership with Conscience: Calling on executives and policymakers to lead with integrity, foresight, and a genuine care for the long-term well-being of the planet and its people.

In Summary: The year 2026 is not just about what we deliver in energy molecules or electrons, but how we care for the world while doing so. “On Our Duty of Care- Giving Meaning” is our pledge to champion leadership that protects, sustains, and unites.

EFOW Program 2025: Focus on the Essentials

For year 2025- we will make special time and attention to  “Focus on the Essentials” given the ” New Energy Realities” and “the Situation We Are In”.

With that, we mean:

Our focus in year 2025 will be on stimulating “the more good and constructive behaviours” in our Governments and Corporations, whilst understanding some of the more sobering realities we are in- and the great opportunities we have- in mending these curves:

In Our Geo-Politics, in our Energy and Economy Plays, and in the Relationships we have with Nature and between Ourselves.

An overview of our appraisal of the State of Our World, relevant for Energy and Energy Transition- and the present behaviours of our Governments and Corporations- can be found in our Year-End Overview: EFOW Year 2024 in Review- The State of Our World- for Energy, Energy Transitions- Full Paper

Our Essentials:-

Peace, Dialogue and Diplomacy (Re-building of Trust)

Over Wars, New Militarisation, Warfares- and Weaponization (e.g. “RoboWars”, Hypersonic Missiles) or Weaponization of Economies. Only with Peace, Good Futures can be Made.

Making Room for the New

“The Great Electrification” and the Better Roles and Responsibilities of BigOil and OilProducts, Moving Away from Fossil Fuels (See e.g. Appendix) in the Transition. See also : our Agenda 2024: Good Future Making.: Building Energy-Economies Free of Concerns.

East-West, North-South (Trade-) Relationships

The ways we organize and integrate the UN Pact for the Future,  UNSDGs goals into our trade and trade relations. Working with the Needs of the Global South, the Rise and New Growths of the East and the Transformative Powers and Potentials- of the Developed West and Rest. A Global Fund for Development. “Rich-Poor” gap closures- nationally, internationally.

Climate and Our Planetary Boundaries ( Natural Environment)

Understanding and working with present (red-lines) , scales, gaps, risks & realities and the opportunities to see and restore better balance, resilience and care, including the needs of Nature and our future natural resource and reserve needs. Taking the Planetary Boundaries and Observed (Developing) Crisis in Our Nature- a little more serious.

(Technology, Economy &) Direction of our Human Development

The ways we grow, distribute, modernize or reform our Economies ( in relation to Ecology, Sociology, Future), including the potentials and influences of new technologies (AI, Robotics: “Age of Abundance”).

The Direction of our Economies: More Intense, Global, More vs. Slow, Local, Less.

Care for “inclusive economies”: the social equity,  cohesion and impact on humanity and communities (cultures, traditions, moral values)

Making benefit of the new (AI) technology revolution, and the opportunities that create to see well.

Our Leadership, Organisation and Moral Values

Our World View, Our Tone of Voice and Our Words Used.

Care and Respect for our Planet Earth, The Other and Our Future.

(Steward) Leadership with Decency and Universal Shared Moral Values.

Leadership (and Leadership Training) that can proactively envision and (re-)organize the (present, unzippered) international institutes, governance & organisations, sector, markets,  and corporations that can bring about “Energy For One World”.

This is very much true, urgent and needed in today’s Energy Sector, as it appears we are here yet “missing the point” of this form of “integration for realization”.
